SOME CONTRACTORS WELCOME CHANGE

Posted: December 27, 2011 at 5:23 a.m.

Homeowners will have a way to trim the wings of fly-by-night contractors beginning in January.

AT A GLANCE

Act 1208

Act 1208 goes into effect Jan. 1 and gives homeowners protection from bad contractors. The law mandates:

• Anyone doing work on a residence, when the project is $2,000 or more in labor and material, must have a license from the Contractors Licensing Board.

• Contractors working without a license can be fined up to $400 per day.

• The license can be canceled based on complaints.

• In Rogers, a home repair contractor must have a license before the city will issue a business permit.
