Festive Christmas Display A Family Affair

Posted: December 24, 2011 at 5:42 a.m.

A festive display of Christmas lights was a team effort for the Maestri family at 1501 W. Pine St. in Rogers. Debi Maestri, right, her daughter Dani Madison, left, and Dani’s husband Diereck Madison, put up the lights with help from the Madison children Drake Madison, left, and Drew Madison.

There’s a Christmas story behind the twinkling lights and luminaries that brighten the night on the corner of 15th and Pine streets.

Bella Vista Winner

Chuck and Lisa Knight of 43 Bedford Lane in Bella Vista won the city’s annual Deck the Village contest in the category for homes with more than 5,000 lights. Chuck said the project is a labor of love fueled by Christmas spirit and a lot of “attaboys” from his wife.

The light display is meant to make the home look like a gingerbread house, Chuck said, and is more subdued than many newer displays with flashing lights and loud music. He gave away one of his secrets, saying he tacked carpet to the roof of his home and attached lights to the carpet to spell out “Merry Christmas.”

He said he will take his winnings from this year’s contest and buy more lights to decorate for next year.

While he enjoys the interaction with others the display attracts, he said the main reason to put in so much effort is because of his wife.

“It makes my wife very happy,” he said.
