Auburn vice president 16th to apply for ASU’s top post

— The vice president for student affairs at Auburn University has applied for the chancellor’s position at Arkansas State University at Jonesboro, making him the 16th person to seek the job.

The university released his application letter and resume Wednesday evening.

Ainsley Carry of Waverly, Ala., has held the Auburn job since 2009. He is also an assistant professor of highereducation.

From 2007 to 2009, Carry was the associate vice president dean of students and an assistant professor at Temple University in Philadelphia, and was an assistant vice president for the division of student affairs at the University of Florida at Gainesville from 2006 to 2007.

He was also an associate dean of students and adjunct assistant professor at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville from 2001 to 2004.

He will earn his master’s degree in business administration in 2012 from Auburn.

Carry earned an Ed.D. in higher education administration from the University of Florida in 1998.

He said in his letter to ASU that he was attracted to the university’s 2010-2015 strategic plan. “These are ambitious and worth goals,” he wrote. “I would be honored to serve as chancellor during this period of continued transformation.”

G. Daniel Howard hasserved as the interim ASUJonesboro chancellor since July 1, 2010, after then-Chancellor Robert Potts, who is now retired, became interim ASU System president.

Howard was the first of the 16 people to apply for the position when ASU began accepting applications.

ASU System President Charles Welch said he expects more to apply for the job. He has said he wants to select a new chancellor by the spring to begin in Jonesboro by July 1.
