Regional unemployment remains flat

Unemployment in the Northwest Arkansas metro region dropped slightly from September to October but remained flat year-to-year, according to the latest data from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The unemployment rate was 5.9 percent in October for the Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers and Southwest Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area, down slightly from 6.3 percent in September.
Government and leisure and hospitality, education and health services, professional business services, other service and construction all segments grew slightly in October, year-over-year, but trade, transportation and utilities, financial activities and manufacturing were all down.
“Really, when we think about this kind of recovery, we’re just not seeing a return to the trends of the boom days,” said Kathy Deck, director for the Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Arkansas.
