Group to lobby against 188th cuts

Posted: December 3, 2011 at 5:54 a.m.

Senior Airman Michael Henderson, left, Staff Sergeant Nicholas Swenson, center, and Airman 1st Class Brian Smith, right, watch a portion of this year's air show at the Fort Smith Regional Airport from atop the AC-130H Gunship that the three men help maintain at Canon Air Force Base in Clovis, N.M. The show, which continues Sunday, is hosted by the Arkansas Air National Guard 188th Fighter Wing and the 188th Fighter Wing-Fort Chaffee Community Council. About 200,000 people usually attend.

Officials with a Fort Smith community-based organization supporting local military units will brief the state’s congressional and military leaders later this month on plans to defend the Arkansas Air National Guard’s 188th Fighter Wing against possible defense budget cuts.
