Rogers High def. Springdale High

Sophomore Emily Osborne scored 22 service points and junior Ashley Ferguson had 28 digs as Rogers High defeated Springdale High 3-0 in a 7A-West Conference volleyball match Thursday in Rogers.

Junior Allie Krabbenhoft added eight kills and six blocks for the Lady Mounties (3-2, 1-0 7A-West Conference).

“Passing is the key for us,” Rogers coach Jeana Breedlove said. “When we pass well, we do well. “When we don’t pass well, we don’t do well.”

Despite the tough loss, Springdale coach Amanda Williford said senior middle blocker Lauren Perry stood out, finishing with several blocks and kills to help give Springdale (2-8, 0-1) some momentum throughout the game.

“I don’t know if we were overconfident or because we had a slow start, but we just didn’t perform the way we needed to,” Williford said. “We didn’t get going until later in the match and by that point, it was just too late.”

Williford said the team will go back, examine the game’s film, have a few team meetings and try to regroup before it hosts Rogers Heritage on Tuesday.

“We need to find out what we’re doing wrong,” Williford said. “We have to realize it’s a long season, we can rebound from this and be just fine.”

Fayetteville def. Rogers Heritage

Sophomore Hannah Pinter had nine kills and two aces, and fellow outside hitter Courtney Marshall added eight kills to lead Fayetteville to a 25-17, 25-12, 25-19 win at Rogers Heritage.

Shayne Wiedemann had 12 kills as Bentonville opened 7A-West Conference play with a 25-17, 25-23, 25-19 victory over Fort Smith Northside in Tiger Arena in Bentonville.

Wiedemann recorded half of her kills in the second game as the Lady Tigers (4-0, 1-0) made a furious comeback from an 11-0 deficit. She also recorded five digs in the match, as did Hailey Waggener.

Hailey McNee added 10 kills, while Kelsey Parks and Rebecca Brown added six kills apiece.

Parks and Mamie Matteri each recorded three solo blocks as Bentonville finished the match with 10. Parks also had three aces, two of them coming on back-to-back serves and giving the Lady Tigers the win in the second game.

Bentonville returns to 7A-West play Tuesday with a match at Springdale Har-Ber.

Fort Smith Southside def. Springdale Har-Ber

Springdale Har-Ber got 15 kills and five blocks from Alicia Swearingen, but it wasn’t enough in a four-game loss to Fort Smith Southside, 22-25, 25-20, 9-25, 17-25, in Southside Gymnasium.

Marisa Pless added seven kills and Summer Morgan chipped in with five blocks in the 7A-West Conference opener for the Lady Wildcats (1-3, 0-1).
