— All-Stars losing day for costs

The Arkansas High School Coaches Association All-Star football game will be played Thursday next June at the University of Arkansas, one day earlier than normal, said Lance Taylor, executive director of the Arkansas Activities Association.

Taylor said all eventsAHSCA All-Star week are being conducted a day earlier to address rising expenses.

The executive committee of the AHSCA and the AAA board of directors approved the change, Taylor said.

Taylor said All-Star baseball and softball games will be Monday night, soccer and volleyball games Tuesday night, basketball games Wednesday night and the football game Thursday night.

Instead of Wednesday-Friday, the AHSCA coaching clinic will be Tuesday-Thursday, Taylor said.

“They’re cutting off days to try to cut costs,” Taylor said.

Earlier this year, the AAA began exploring the possibility of the AHSCA holding in-season All-Star games as a way to shave expenses.

All-Star games had traditionally been played in Conway and Little Rock before moving to Fayetteville in 2002.

This fall, Kehner has carried 152 times for 2,090 yards and 34 touchdowns.
