Arkansas 49, Vanderbilt 14

— 1st Quarter

VANDERBILT 14, ARKANSAS 6

Ryan Mallett’s 23-yard throw to Ronnie Wingo put Arkansas in Vanderbilt territory on the opening drive, but a false start and sack wiped out the drive. Vanderbilt’s Warren Norman broke multiple tackles on a 51-yard run, and wideout Jonathan Krause took an end-around 21 yards for the score. Mallett’s 34-yard throw to Chris Gragg on third-down play-action set up D.J. Williams’ first touchdown of the year. A bad snap blew Arkansas’ extra-point attempt. The Commodores struck back with a 55-yard drive, with Larry Smith connecting with tight end Brandon Barden for an 8-yard touchdown pass.

Knile Davis accounted for 56 yards on an Arkansas drive capped by his 2-yard touchdown run. Vanderbilt gave backup quarterback Jared Funk a series and it backfired with a fumbled snap and a tipped pass intercepted by Rudell Crim. Ryan Mallett hit Jarius Wright for the first of their two 15-yard touchdown passes as the Hogs took the lead. Linebacker Jerry Franklin sacked Larry Smith and forced a fumble at the goal line for an Arkansas safety. Mallett and Wright connected again after Lance Ray’s 66-yard return off the free kick. The Hogs worked their two-minute drill to score on Zach Hocker’s 26-yard field goal.

3rd Quarter

ARKANSAS 35, VANDERBILT 14

Penalties and punts ruled the quarter. The Razorbacks had at least one penalty on each of their possessions - a false start, offensive pass interference and chop block - to bog down. The pass interference on D.J. Williams wiped out a touchdown catch by Greg Childs. Vanderbilt did not post a first down in the quarter and amassed 20 total yards. Ryan Mallett’s 52-yard pass to freshman Julian Horton put the Hogs on the Vandy 11, but Arkansas had to settle for Zach Hocker’s 27-yard field goal for the only points in the quarter.

4th Quarter

ARKANSAS 49, VANDERBILT 14

Vanderbilt entered the quarter on a first-down drought that was longer than 33 minutes and lasted until the 4:30 mark. Knile Davis powered in from 2 yards out two plays after Greg Childs’ 17-yard reception on thirdand-11. The Commodores brought Jared Funk in for another series and Jerico Nelson grabbed a pass over the middle, returned it 39 yards for a touchdown and was flagged for his flamboyant flip into the end zone. It was the final score in a game in which Vanderbilt managed 23 yards on its final 35 snaps.
