City To Get Volunteer Award

FAYETTEVILLE - The city was among 12 communities selected to received the 2010 Arkansas Volunteer Community of the Year Award.

A panel of residents from across the state served on the selection committee.

The communities will be presented with their award at the Arkansas Municipal League’s Winter Conference on Jan. 12-14, 2011, in Little Rock.

The Arkansas Volunteer Community of the Year Award is sponsored by the Governor’s Office, the Arkansas Municipal League and the Arkansas Department of Human Services Division of Volunteerism.

Signs announcing the Volunteer Community of the Year designation, provided by the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Division, will be placed at prominent locations along highways of winning cities.

Early Voting Continues Today

FAYETTEVILLE - In two weeks of early voting, 6,486 people in Washington County have cast their ballots for the 2010 general election.

This week, 3,904 people voted, according to theWashington County Clerk’s Office. During the first week, 2,582 voted.

The county has about 98,000 registered voters.

By the end of early voting in 2008, a presidential election year, about 22,700 voters had cast early ballots.

County residents still looking to vote early can go today to the Washington County Courthouse on North College Avenue from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or the Springdale Rodeo Center at 1423 E. Emma Ave. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Springdale location will be closed Monday. Early voting will still take place at the courthouse from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Election day is Tuesday with polls open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Last Bentonville Market Today

BENTONVILLE - The city’s last farmers market of the year will be from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. today.

The market will feature vendors, and Sara Adams of Green Bean Cafe will host cooking demonstrations at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.

Adams will make pumpkin gnocchi.

Children are invited to trick or treat around the downtown square from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Market vendors and several downtown businesses will hand out treats. Children also will be able to make their own masks with Trike Theatre starting at 11:30 a.m.

Disc Golf Meeting Thursday

ROGERS - The Rogers Parks Department is hosting a public meeting to determine interest in constructing a disc golf course.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. Thursday in Council Chambers at Rogers City Hall, 301 W. Chestnut St.

Interested individuals are invited to attend.

New Hope Road Section Closed

ROGERS - New Hope Road between Eighth and First streets will be closed from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.

The city has added a right turn lane between the Arkansas-Missouri railroad tracks and Arvest Bank.

Today, railroad employees will replace the tracks crossing New Hope Road as part of the improvement.

The Rogers Street Department is scheduled to asphalt the crossing next week.
