On account of the fact that the official date comes this year on Sunday, there will be two Halloweens generally observed. The maid will have double opportunity of getting the full and authentic dope on “him,” and the householder will have an extra night of lying in bed and wondering how much of the old homestead will be there in the morning. The annual bunch of superstitions will be revived and observed.

50 YEARS AGO Oct. 30, 1960

State Insurance Commissioner Harvey Combs yesterday disclosed a new low-cost automobile insurance policy and a “safe driver” rating plan which will reduce insurance costs for many car owners. It was announced by two national rating organizations on behalf of their more than 200 affiliated companies licensed to write insurance in Arkansas and will become effective Tuesday, Combs said.

25 YEARS AGO Oct. 30, 1985

Arkansas Needs Seatbelts, a new organization of professional associations and corporations, Tuesday began its first campaign, “Buckle Up for Bucks,” to encourage the use of seat belts. Lydia Robertson, executive director, said Arkansas Needs Seatbelts was formed about two months ago and receives funds from Traffic Safety Now, a national organization that has offices at Detroit and Washington.

10 YEARS AGO Oct. 30, 2000

Acxiom Corp. will begin construction of its 12-story, $35 million office tower in Little Rock’s River Market district this week. The project, announced 18 months ago, represents one aspect of the data management company’s recent building boom. In just two years, Acxiom has also completed two buildings in Little Rock, built new offices in Conway and purchased land for a campus in Phoenix. The downtown building will be a 350,000 square-foot tower at the northeast corner of Third and Ferry streets, near the site of the proposed Clinton presidential library.
