Gardener Training Scheduled

Master Gardeners are members of the local community who receive 40 hours of specialized training in all areas of horticulture in exchange for volunteer service with gardening related projects that are designed to share gardening information with the general public.

The course uses university professors, Cooperative Extension specialists and horticulture professionals as teachers who cover a broad range of horticulture and gardening topics. The training course will be conducted on Monday and Thursdays during the month of January at the Center for Nonprofits at St. Mary’s in Rogers.

As volunteer staff of the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, Master Gardeners help disseminate horticulture information throughout the county. They do this by conducting a wide variety of horticulture projects ranging from volunteer work at local public gardens and school gardens, community beautification, gardening hotline service, gardenrelated Internet services, public horticulture education seminars, among many others.

Although some Master Gardeners are considered to be experts with years of gardening experience, others are in the process of learning gardening basics. All, however, are eager to learn more about gardening and share their passion with others. Course enrollment is limited due to space and the application deadline is today.

Registration for the course may be done one of two ways. Individuals can request an application by calling the Benton County Extension office at 271-1060, or by e-mailing [email protected].
