Duryl Mixon, 30, of 214 N. Pittman St. faces felony charges in connection with aggravated assault, first-degree battery and interference with emergency communication.

According to a preliminary arrest report, Mixon and his wife got into an argument, during which Mixon choked and smothered her repeatedly, causing her to lose consciousness and hit her head on a cement curb.

She said she bit and scratched Mixon. She told police she tried to escape and was unable to use her cell phone. Police said Mixon took the battery from his wife’s phone so she couldn’t call for help.

He was arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center where he was being held on a $7,500 bond Thursday. He’s expected to make his first appearance in Washington County Circuit Court today.
