Michael Luther Kanning, 51, of 604 S.W. Fifth St. in Bentonville was arrested Thursday by investigators with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.

Kanning was jailed in connection with two counts of delivery of a controlled substance, according to a probable-cause affidavit.

Kanning sold drugs to confidential informants on three occasions, according to the affidavit.

The document states on Aug. 20, Kanning sold Roxicodone pills to an informant; sold morphine pills to another informant Sept. 21; and, on Oct. 19, Kanning sold more Roxicodone pills to an informant.

Both informants identified Kanning from a driver’s license photo, according to the affidavit.

Circuit Judge David Clinger set Kanning’s bond at $30,000. If released, Kanning must report weekly to the Benton County probation office and he must submit to drug tests. His arraignment is set for Dec. 6.

Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Stuart Cearley told Clinger during Thursday's hearing that one of the drug deals happened near a city park which could result in an enhancement to any sentence.

Kanning was also arrested Oct. 21 by Bentonville police in connection with felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor public intoxication. Police said Kanning was in possession of prescription drugs without a prescription.

Kanning is the husband of Cheryl Kanning, 51, of Bentonville, who was reported missing by her husband Jan. 26.

Cheryl Kanning was last seen driving away from her residence at 3407 Crosswinds in Bentonville on Jan. 24 following a domestic dispute, according to police.
