SPRINGDALE

Howard Lee Thornburg, 63, of Springdale, Ark., passed away on Monday, Oct. 25, 2010. He was born on May 1, 1947, in Springdale, Ark., a son of Frank Theadore and Luvada (McGarrah) Thornburg.

Howard enjoyed following sports and being an active member of Temple Baptist Church in Springdale. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Arlene Main; a sister-in-law, Jan Thornburg; and a niece, Joy Renee Thornburg.

Howard is survived by three brothers, Paul Thornburg, Larry Thornburg and wife, Bobbi, and Bob Thornburg and wife, Linda, all of Springdale, Ark.; seven nieces; two nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at Wilson Cemetery in Springdale, Ark., with the Rev. Don Elmore officiating.

FAYETTEVILLE

Robert M. “Bob” Renner, age 82, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010, in Fayetteville. He was born Jan. 5, 1928, to Maurice and Joyce Parsley Renner in Muskogee, Okla.

He was a member of University Baptist Church in Fayetteville, was in the Naval Reserve for 25 years and an Arkansas Activities Association Hall of Fame member. He was preceded in death by his wife, Terry Renner.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at University Baptist Church in Fayetteville, with a private committal at the Fayetteville National Cemetery prior to the memorial service, under the direction of Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville.

He is survived by one daughter, Mary Slaughter and her husband, Mark, of Rogers, Ark.; three sons, David Renner and his wife, Cheryl, of Fayetteville, Mark Renner and his wife, Margaret, of Fayetteville, Kevin Renner and his wife, Kim, of Fayetteville; one sister, Riley White of Plano, Texas; also survived by 11 grandchildren, Shannon Montgomery, Anne Vanhook, Christen Hagan, Kaitlin Renner, Bo Renner, Luke Renner, Matt Slaughter, Mitchell Slaughter, Morgan Slaughter, Amanda Melton and Amie Weston; five great-grandchildren, Miles Montgomery, Maggie Montgomery, Lily Vanhook, Austin Melton and Gabriela Melton.

FARMINGTON

Virginia Jo Toothman, 54, of Farmington, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at Washington Regional Medical Center.

She was born March 25, 1956, in Harrison, Ark., the daughter of Rual Ramey and Lois Ramey-Dean. She was preceded in death by her father; her maternal grandparents, Ollie and Frances Trammell; and a brother, James Ramey.

She was a bus driver for the Springdale school system. She was a devoted member of the New Covenant Fellowship Church in Farmington. She married the love of her life, Orville S. Toothman on Nov. 7, 1975, in Edwardsville, Kan.

She is survived by her loving husband, Orville S. Toothman; her mother and stepfather, Lois and Delbert Dean; three children, Mickey W. Rice Jr. and wife, Carolyn, of West Fork, Ark., Jennifer Ramey of Farmington, Ark., and Daniel Toothman and wife, Ashley, of Midland, Texas; two brothers, Harley Ramey of Buckner, Mo., and Kenneth Ramey of Kansas City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Presley W. Ramey of Farmington, Ark., and Tina and Ryan Donahue of Fayetteville, Ark.; one great-grandchild, Makayla Donahue; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at Moore’s Chapel, 206 W. Center, Fayetteville, Ark. Officiating will be Ivan Rivera.

Burial will be at Farmington Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Moore’s Chapel.

FAYETTEVILLE

Donald DeMers Smith, 87, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, in Springdale, Ark.

He was born Feb. 8, 1923, in Menands, N.Y., to Arthur and Lelia (DeMers) Smith. He was a retired vice president of sales and marketing for Verson All-Steel Press and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Prior to working at Verson, he was employed at Dun & Bradstreet. He was also a member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

He and his wife, Shirley, married in 1945 and spent 54 happy years together in Peoria, Ill., Dallas, Texas, and Orland Park, Ill. Donald was a lifelong choir member and spent many hours enjoying woodworking, stamp collecting and reading. His favorite pastime, however, was spending time with his five grandsons, whom he adored.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Smith; one brother, Arthur Smith; and one sister, Lelia Williams.

He is survived by one daughter, Susie Baker and husband, Terry, of Fayetteville, Ark.; one brother, Richard Smith of Simsbury, Conn.; one sister, Beverly Scott of Menands, N.Y.; and five grandsons, Brandon, Preston, Peyton, Cameron and Carson Baker.

A memorial service and internment will be held at a later date in Chicago, Ill., at Church of St. John the Evangelist, Flossmoor, Ill., where he and his wife, Shirley, were very active members.

Marietta Hulse, 57, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, in Fayetteville, Ark. She was born April 3, 1953, in Fayetteville, Ark., to Charles Clinehens Sr. and Dorothy (Gunter) Clinehens.

She is survived by her parents of Fayetteville, Ark.; husband, Danny R. Hulse; one daughter, Elizabeth Hulse of Fayetteville, Ark.; one sister, Dorothy Cassat of Fayetteville, Ark.; and one brother, Charles Clinehens Jr. of Fayetteville, Ark.

Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. today, Oct. 27, at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28th, in the Chapel of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harold Clinehens officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Comfort Cemetery in Fayetteville.

Glenda Kay Sines Barber, age 61, of Cedar Hill, Texas, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, at her home in Cedar Hill. She was born May 2, 1949, to Norwood Hart and Marjorie Page Sines.

Glenda attended Arkansas Tech and made a career as a paralegal in Dallas. She enjoyed the Dallas Cowboys and Rangers and was a great fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks, attending their games when possible.

Glenda was a devoted wife, mother and special friend to her cousins and their families; she will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Henry Barber; one son, Adam Hart Barber of Cedar Hill, Texas; one aunt, Lorraine Sines Holland; and several cousins.

Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, in the Wesley Chapel at Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, under the direction of Moore’s Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Gary Lunsford.

PRYOR, Okla.

Doyle Lynn Reed, 59, of Pryor, Okla., died Oct. 24, 2010, at St. Frances Hospital in Tulsa, Okla.

He was born May 17, 1951, in Springdale, to Arthur Burl and Nadine Thomas Reed.

Doyle was a great mechanic and loved to work on old antique cars and trucks.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Reed of the home; four sons, Preston Reed and wife, Martha, of Farmington, Arthur Reed and wife, Amy, of Salina, Okla., Bobby Anderson and wife, Cindy, and Brad Anderson, all of Pryor, Okla.; two daughters, Tracy Wells of West Fork and Deadra Vandenbroeke and her husband, John, of Pryor, Okla.; his mother, Nadine Louis of Pryor, Okla.; one sister; 20 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at the Cox Cemetery in Morrow.

Arrangements are by Luginbuel Funeral Home of Prairie Grove.
