Man Arrested With Stolen Gun

— Police found a stolen .45-caliber Glock pistol Friday afternoon and arrested a man after they received a call incorrectly reporting a possible hostage situation, according to preliminary reports.

Robert Browder, 30, of 2089 N. Birch Ave. was arrested at an apartment complex on the corner of North Birch Avenue and West Poplar Street.

Police responded to a 911 call that claimed Browder was holding two women hostage, according to dispatch logs. When police arrived, Browder was not at the location.

However, he arrived shortly after. Police immediately arrested Browder on the belief he had violated a restraining order against one of the women. Police found the gun, along with fuel, 24 tablets of pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, and a package of lithium batteries, according to the report. Police also found drug paraphernalia in his apartment.

Browder was charged with felon in possession of firearm, felony theft by receiving and possession of drug paraphernalia with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine. He has a previous criminal record with federal and state law enforcement agencies, according to a preliminary arrest report.

The initial hostage call prompted a heightened response by officers who patrolled the area with guns drawn for a short while. That response was eased once police determined the situation wasn’t as initially reported.
