— Repeal two amendments

The arrogance is astounding. An independent state commission’s “governance committee,” girded by its own legal counsel, believes it is its own legislature.

The Game and Fish Commission’s efforts to write its own freedom of information regulations are the latest evidence of the need for change.

There are two simple solutions. First, repeal Amendment 75, the earmarked sales tax that has led to fiscal irresponsibility demonstrated in such ways as the agency’s vehicle fleet’s substantially exceeding the number of employees.

Second, repeal Amendment 35, which apparently has led its leadership to unprecedented levels of arrogance. We should help the commission remember that accountability still exists when the citizens fund its functions.

Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. As Gov. Mike Beebe has noted, there is reason to question whether Amendment 35 represents good public policy today. It is time for change.

Another repeal vote

Nobody seems to mention that we could quell the Game and Fish Commission’s arrogance by repealing Amendment 35, which gives them autonomy from the Legislature, and Amendment 75 which gives them a portion of a one-eighth of 1 percent state sales. Designated allocation of the sales tax is a bad idea anyway.

Merely bringing up the possibility of repeal of these two amendments would probably get their attention better than an freedom of information request anyway.

Back a conservative

Jonesboro’s representative for House District 75, Joan Cash, was the only legislator appointed by Gov. Mike Beebe to his Global Warming Commission other than the co-chair.

The commission has recommended 54 specific policies with only 29 of those estimated to cost $3.7 billion. That amount is not too far from costing as much as one year of Arkansas’ budget, which is $4.4 billion.

These recommendations are similar to the cap-and-trade bill that passed the U.S. House but not the Senate because it is so controversial.

The commission also adopted a recommendation that no new coal plants be built in the state until pollution control technology improves. One such electricity-producing clean-coal plant has already been blocked from providing electricity to Arkansas.

Barack Obama, as can be seen on YouTube, said, “Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.” When energy prices increase, the price of everything else will, too. I don’t think we can afford Cash even if global warming was a reality, and I agree with the 31,487 American scientists, who have signed a petition basically saying that global warming is a farce. Their signatures are posted online.

Cash does have a conservative opponent, Jon Hubbard, so we do have a choice Nov. 2.

Alter U.S. direction

Many conservative Democrats have admitted that they do not support the Obama administration policies. However, those same Democrats continue to support candidates who do support the Obama administration and its socialistic policies.

Remember that the Democratic Party of today is not your father’s or your grandfather’s Democratic Party. Progressivism and socialism now control today’s Democratic Party, which in time will take us down the road to serfdom.

Want to stop the out-of-control spending, bailouts and tax increases? Want to prevent cap-and-trade from becoming law? Want to protect our Second and 20th Amendment rights? Want Obamacare repealed before we are forced into a single-payer system and bureaucratic domination of our health care? Want a government employee (not medically trained) to oversee our health care? Want to stop the remaking of America into a socialistic state? And most important, should the U.N. policies such as Agenda 21 become the law of the land?

Those who believe this country is headed in the wrong direction must take a stand and vote for candidates who will stand up to Barack Obama and repeal legislation that does not adhere to the U.S. Constitution. Vote for the candidate, regardless of party affiliation, who will listen to the voice of “we the people” before we lose that voice.

Query on insurance

Since the Democrats refused to allow individuals to buy health insurance across state lines, how do they squeeze it under the interstate commerce clause?

As to requiring car insurance, that’s a state law, not federal. The insurance is on the car, not the driver.

Stop smear campaign

Obamanoids in lame stream media, led by hacks such as Gene Lyons and Chris Matthews, are busy smearing Christine O’Donnell for comments made a decade ago about “dabbling in witchcraft” as a high school student.

Maybe the Obama administration should try witchcraft to create jobs. It most certainly could not be any less effective than its economic policies.

It won’t be long now

A thank-you to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Charles Krauthammer, Michelle Malkin, Laura Ingraham and our own Dave Elswick for their continuing education over the last few years.

Their message is getting through to the people and it will throw the high-spending, socialist, big-government, liberal bums out.

Keep up the good work. Just a few days to go.

Decision easily made

I continue to read opinions on the pros and cons of Blanche Lincoln bringing billions of dollars to the needy farmers. I would like to offer a very simple solution: If you have been a recipient of these billions, vote for Blanche. If you have not received any of these funds, vote for John Boozman.

Conservatism’s draw

I am a conservative because I love my freedom and think others should have the same freedom no matter what their situation may be.

I am a conservative because I am a Christian. I put my faith in Jesus Christ, the son of God, many years ago. As a conservative Christian, I believe the New Testament describes just one way of salvation, notmultitudes of different, bizarre ways.

As a conservative, I believe my government should follow all of the Constitution, not pick and choose which laws to enforce and ignore others. I believe the 10th and Second amendments are as much the law of the land as the First, 15th or 16th.

I believe written words have lasting meaning. The meaning of a document, whether written 223 years ago or about 1,954 years ago, should be sought in what the authors meant at the time. Words should not be twisted, stretched, strained or tortured to give support to positions that the original authors would have found repulsive and would have repudiated.

I am sometimes accused by liberal friends of being inconsistent. I do not believe in killing the unborn and I hate the idea of my tax dollar and the national health care system doing such, then put forth little or no effort to keep every murderer or rapist alive forever.

As a conservative, I may be a bit old-fashioned. I think a person should study hard in school and do a good day’s work at the job.

Vision appears faulty

I’m having a problem as to why John Boozman does not come out in his own voice and explain why a 23 percent tax increase for everyone will solve our problems. The rich will get richer and the poor poorer.

Why does he allow a couple of circus clowns to speak for him? Put them together and then you have the Three Stooges.

What is scary is that a Senate slot is a lot more powerful than a House slot, so may God help us if he wins. Who knows what dumb legislation he will come up with next?

For an eye doctor, he’s blind in one eye and can’t see out of the other when it comes to reality.

Bid raises questions

Before voting in the general election, residents of Arkansas’ 2nd Congressional District need to ask themselves three important questions about candidate Tim Griffin.

First, regarding his 2007 resignation from a federal U.S attorney’s position after only six months, why exactly was it “not worth it,” as he stated at the time?

Second, if he were elected, what assurance is there that he would not also resign from the congressional seat when he decided it was no longer “worth it”?

Third, Griffin served in Washington as a protégé of Karl Rove, participated in the political ouster of nine well qualified sitting judges and was rewarded with an appointment to one of their seats. Would he be able to leave behind that kind of narrow politics to adequately represent the moderate Republicans, independents and Democrats who live in the 2nd District?

Feedback Expenses the same

The guvment sez there is no inflation; therefore, no raise in Social Security for two years.

Most people on Social Security have fundamental expenditures consisting of basics like gas, utilities, food, insurance premiums, medical expenses and drugs. Now all you old folks out there who are paying the same or less for any of these than you did two years ago, please stand up.

Hmm, I thought so.

Our politicians are so disconnected from who we are and what our needs are that they can’t see daylight. I’ll leave you to fill in the first part of this quote. By the way, if you’re thinking, “Yeah, it’s those darn Republicans” or “It’s those darn Democrats,” then you are part of the problem, not the solution. IMHO.

Redo poison logo

As time passes, products change design. For instance, Betty Crocker’s face has changed. In light of that, I believe the appropriate thing to do would be to change the symbol of skull and crossbones (on something poisonous, no doubt) to the face of a Southeastern Conference official. They will kill you every time.
