Betty Jean Walker

SPRINGDALE — Betty Jean Walker, 82, passed away peacefully on Oct. 23, 2010, at The Maples in Springdale. She was a 62-year resident of Springdale, and active in local, state and national organizations.

Betty was born in Seligman, Mo., to E.C. and Ruth McClain Hooker as the youngest of four children. She graduated high school in Seligman, then attended both Southwest Missouri State in Springfield and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She was a featured singer with a local orchestra while in Springfi eld.

After she came to Springdale, Betty owned and operated the Springdale Credit Bureau and was also the original Business Manager of Springdale Memorial Hospital (now Northwest Medical Center).

Her local activities included serving on the Washington County Selective Service Draft Board, Beta Sigma Phi and she was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Betty was active in the Republican Party on the County, State and national level, including serving as a Voting Delegate to two Republican National Conventions. She was appointed by President George H. W. Bush to the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (DACOWITS) in the Department of Defense.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; one brother and one sister. She is survived by her husband, William C. “Bill” Walker of the home; daughters, Jeanne Walker of Louisville, Ky., and Jan Walker of Springdale; her sister, Teena Carpenter of Fayetteville; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at the Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at Sisco Chapel on Wednesday, Oct. 27. There will be a private family burial.

Pallbearers are David Carpenter, Joe Herriman, Adrian Luttrell, Jim Crouch, Clay Galloway and Paul Bynum Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Stuart Hooker, Brent Hooker, Kendall Carpenter, Jim Cypert, Pierce Smith, Howard Sutton, Paul Davis, Gene Thompson, Harold Beisel, Andy Penzo, Don Marts, Bobby Hopper, Ken Galloway, Jim Buchanan, and Betty’s chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff of The Maples at Harbor Meadows, who for five years consistently treated Betty with respect, good humor and loving care. They also wish to thank the kind and supportive staff of Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale.

Jennie Lee Moore

FAYETTEVILLE — Jennie Lee Moore, 76, of Fayetteville, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, in Fayetteville. She was born April 15, 1934, in Fayetteville to Herbert and Pearl Bookout Simpson.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010, at Moore’s Chapel. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shady Grove Cemetery in Johnson, Ark., under the direction of Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville.

She is survived by one daughter, Brenda Morgan of Fayetteville; two sons, Dennis Moore and Jerry Moore, both of Fayetteville; one sister, Norma Osburn of Winslow; one brother, Jimmy Simpson of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren, Krystal Fields and her husband Jeremy, Jeremy Moore and his wife Kathleen, Dana Williams and his wife Kimberly, Korena Morgan, Monae Moore, Chris Morgan, Rusty Boyd; eight great-grandchildren and numerous friends.

Elenia Maria Foley

HINDSVILLE — Elenia Maria Foley, 71, of Hindsville died Oct. 21, 2010, at Joplin, Mo. She was born Dec. 10, 1938, in Spokane, Wash., to William Blackwell and Loretta Mary Winter Smith. She was a private investigator and a Catholic.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Peterson of Idaho and Yvonne Hall of Farmington; one brother; one grandson; two granddaughters; one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery in Fayetteville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.

Eunice Irene Scott

SPRINGDALE — Eunice Irene Scott, 100, of Springdale, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, in Springdale.

She was born Aug. 9, 1910, in Boise City, Okla., to Eddie and Lila (Browder) Prince.

Mrs. Scott resided in the Monitor Community most of her life. She was an accomplished basketball player in school. She was active in the Home Extension Club where she shared her passion for quilting with her friends. Mrs. Scott was a member of Southern Grove Missionary Baptist Church for 85 years.

Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her husband, Pierce Ivan Scott; 11 siblings; twin sons, Keith Ivan Scott and Kenneth Pierce Scott; two daughters-in-law, Dorothy Scott and Mary Scott; two grandchildren, Diana Scott and Erick Ivan Bowers; and one great-grandchild.

She is survived by four sons, Charlie Scott and wife Beverly of Mesa, Ariz., Ralph Scott of Springdale, Tommy Scott and wife Rita of Elm Springs, and Jimmy Scott and wife Linda of Bethel Heights; daughter, Marie Dee and husband Tom of Bethel Heights; daughter-inlaw, Betty J. Scott of Bentonville; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 26 at the Westfield Chapel Funeral Home in Springdale. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27 at Westfield Chapel with the Rev. Bryan Taylor off ciating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery.
