Firefighters Battle Blaze at AERT

Springdale firefighters use a ladder truck try to extinguish a fire Saturday at Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies at 802 E. Huntsville Ave. in Springdale as seen from Cedar Street west of the fire. Crews worked to overturn piles of burning debris with construction equipment then soaked the debris with water to smother the flames. Neighbors said the fire began sometime before dawn.

SPRINGDALE — Springdale firefighters spent most of the day Saturday battling a stubborn fire at Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies, 914 N. Jefferson.

Fire dispatchers said the fire was located in bales of pallets located at the back of the facility.

The fire produced lots of smoke but there were no reports of injuries.

Firefighters were dispatched to AERT at 5:24 a.m. Four engines, a ladder truck, rescue crews and an ambulance responded.

At one point, firefighters requested heavy machinery from the city’s Road Department to move the material around so they could better get at the fire.

Crews were still working the fire Saturday afternoon and the cause had not been determined.
