Rogers Wins Fifth Straight

— Rogers High ninth-grade football coach Johnny Brewer can see the progress the Mounties have made the last five weeks.

Rogers took advantage of four turnovers and won its fifth straight game Thursday with a 33-13 win against Siloam Springs in Glenn W. Black Stadium.

“We’re starting to get more and more confidence,” Brewer said. “Five in a row. Momentum’s building, so the kids are really feeling it. They’re doing a great job.”

Rogers running back Brandon Workman rushed for 105 yards on 12 carries and scored two touchdowns.

His first score came after a botched snap on a Siloam punt that gave Rogers the ball at the 18. Workman scored on the next play to give Rogers (5-3, 5-2 Northwest Arkansas Conference) the lead.

Siloam tied it in the second quarter when Gage Ennis hit Reece Goddard for a 66-yard touchdown pass.

But Rogers answered right back with a scoring drive to take a 14-7 lead. Workman rushed for 41 yards down to the 32, and after a 23-yard keeper by Max Harrell, Workman carried in from seven yards out for the score.

Siloam (0-7, 0-7) fumbled the kickoff and Rogers scored on the next play when Harrell hit Timmy Seldomridge for a 28-yard score to lead 21-7 at the half.

“Defense and special teams did what they’ve done the past five weeks — create turnovers,” Brewer said. “We got the ball and made some great plays, really executed and finished the drives.”

The Mounties scored on the first play of the second half when a wide receiver pass from Brett DaMico hit Brett Gentz for a 49-yard strike.

Rogers tacked on another score in the fourth with a seven-yard touchdown run by Zachary Arrick.

Ennis completed 13 of 25 passes for 174 yards for Siloam. Goddard had seven receptions for 106 yards.

“Four turnovers led to short fields every time for them,” Siloam coach Jonathan Johnson said. “We’re not good enough to overcome that right now.”
