— Ty Murdoch, a University of Arkansas Honors College Fellow majoring in biology, has received a Greater Research Opportunities Undergraduate Fellowship from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Murdoch is one of only 34 students nationwide to receive the scholarship this year. He will analyze and map the distribution of herbicide-resistant wild canola as part of the grant.

The fellowship funds two years of undergraduate study and a summer internship at an EPA lab or other facility. Students receive an $800 monthly stipend, up to $20,000 for tuition and fees, $5,000 for research expenses and a $9,500 stipend for the summer internship program.

Murdoch would like to study at the Organization of Tropical Studies in Costa Rica next year.

Ali McAtee, another Honors College Fellow, received a similar fellowship earlier this year to study algae.

Rose Bunch, a Fayetteville native, is the recent winner of a Fulbright U.S. Student Program scholarship to study on the Indonesian island of Bali.

While in Bali, Bunch hopes to complete her novel about an off-beat Arkansas couple who spend their time pursuing some dangerous pastimes. The grant provides a stipend for living expenses while Bunch is in Bali.

Bunch is pursuing a doctorate in creative writing from Florida State University.

Harmon comes to UA-Fort Smith from Arizona State University, where he managed the university’s online and extended campus marketing team. He has also worked as director of marketing for the University of Illinois system.

Harmon will begin at the university on Oct. 18.

Greenwood began working at the library in 1991.
