Springdale Business Owners Say Holiday Retail Season Going Fine

Black Friday started out with little fanfare at Ryan’s Clothing in downtown Springdale, but owner Max Ryan expected business to pick up in the afternoon.

Businesses with fewer than 500 workers employ half of private sector jobs and pay 44 percent of private payroll in the U.S., according to the Small Business Administration.

“Small businesses account for 97 percent of all Arkansas business, and they employ nearly half the state’s private-sector work force,” Sylvester Smith, Arkansas director of the National Federation of Independent Business, said in a news release supporting the Small Business Saturday initiative.

Event To Showcase Alpacas

Debbie Hoerl of Bucyrus, Kan., hangs awards won by her alpacas Friday while setting up for the annual Alpaca Halter & Fleece Regional Show today at the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Arena in Fayetteville. Vendors will be selling products made from alpaca fleece and the spinning guild from Washington and Benton counties will be also be demonstrating spinning fleece into yarn on spinning wheels.
