Man Accused Of Robbery

— A man is in the Benton County Jail after being arrested in connection with robbery, according to a probable cause affidavit from the Benton County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Maurice Darnell West, 27, of 601 S.W. C St. in Bentonville was arrested Sunday after police said he shoved a Walmart employee during a shoplifting attempt.

Police were called to the Walmart Supercenter, 406 S. Walton Blvd., in Bentonville after asset protection officers chased West from the store, according to the affidavit.

During the chase, West shoved an asset protection officer with such force the officer knocked the sliding door to the entrance of the Walmart off its track, according to the affidavit.

Walmart personnel wrote down the license plate of the vehicle that picked up West, and police found West a short time later, according to the affidavit.

West was attempting to shoplift an item worth $11.19, according to investigators.

West was being held Tuesday in the Benton County Jail in lieu of a $7,500 bond in connection with robbery, a Class B felony. A Class B felony carries a sentence of not less than five years nor more than 20 years in prison.

The probable cause affidavit states West was found guilty of possession of a controlled substance in Batesville on Aug. 11, 2004.
