Betsy Brumley has big plans for the inaugural Brumley MusicFest, scheduled for May 14-15.

She bases her belief on an event that her family founded in 1969 in Springdale and relocated in 2006 to Lebanon, Mo., a town east of Springfield with a population of just more than 10,000. The annual event in Lebanon, called the Brumley Gospel Sing, draws triple its host town’s population each year by presenting some of the world’s top gospel music talent.

“If we can draw 40,000 people in Lebanon, we can draw that many in Bentonville,” Brumley says.

That won’t happen the first year of the new festival, of course, but Brumley, granddaughter of the famed gospel composer Albert ...
