Authorities Capture Fugitive

— A fugitive since 2006 was arrested Wednesday by law enforcement authorities.

William James Day, 49, had been on the run since he failed to appear for a scheduled court date after being arrested in connection with delivery of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, according to a news release. Day was on the Benton County Sheriff’s Office most-wanted list.

Officials with the Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit, U.S. Marshal’s Task Force and Van Buren Police Department captured Day without incident Wednesday evening when he returned to his Van Buren home from work. He was with his brother.

Sheriff’s deputies tracked Day through several states in recent years before receiving a tip Wednesday that Day was living with his brother.

Day was initially arrested July 14, 2006, by the Benton County Sheriff’s Swat team at his residence at 535 S. Main St. in Cave Springs. He worked as an accountant out of his home.

Day is also wanted for felony warrants out of Washington County, according to a news release.

Day was being held Thursday in the Benton County Jail in lieu of a $750,000 bond.
