Brunner & Lay in Springdale soon plans to add 50 to 60 employees. It could be a signal that local manufacturers are starting to follow a national trend of growth. The Institute for Supply Management released February 2010 numbers showing the manufacturing industry grew nationally for the seventh consecutive month. Kathy Deck, director of the Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Arkansas’ Sam M. Walton College of Business, said Northwest Arkansas, like the rest of the state, has seen a decline in manufacturing employment since the mid-1990s because of outsourcing and increased automation.
