Forty or 50 jobs may not sound like a lot, but in a town that’s been losing about 250 residents a year since 2000, when there’s an opportunity to reopen a plant that’s been closed for a decade, the hope is that it will happen quickly. “That’s a big deal, 40 or 50 jobs paying a livable wage above $15 an hour would help us to stop the bleeding,” said Helena-West Helena Mayor James Valley. “Our population in 2000 was about 15,000; now it’s 12,500.
