FAYETTEVILLE Barry Gebhart resigned as Fayetteville’s boys basketball coach on Thursday to devote more time to his family and his position as the school’s athletic director.
Gebhart informed Fayetteville’s players of his decision during a meeting Thursday afternoon. He said a committee will soon be formed to hire his replacement, adding that longtime assistant Kyle Adams will be considered “a strong candidate.”
Gebhart led the Bulldogs in 2009 to a 30-0 season and their first state championship since 1987, and he guided them this season to a second consecutive appearance in the Class 7A state championship game. Fayetteville lost 66-56 to Conway on March 12.
