Unidentified man found dead in Independence County

Posted: March 16, 2010 at 10:30 a.m.

— Independence County authorities say the body of a man found dead near Thida has been sent to the state Crime Laboratory in an effort to identify him and determine the cause of death.

Deputy Mike Price says a man and his wife riding an all-terrain vehicle found the body Saturday morning as they rode in a wooded area about 25 miles south of Batesville.

Sheriff’s Lt. Brenda Bittle says there are no obvious signs of the cause of death. She says there are no missing persons reports in Independence County and the body doesn’t match missing persons from across the state.
