More schools added to state math, science program

LITTLE ROCK Eight Arkansas schools are being added to a $13.2 million program to boost participation and scores in Advanced Placement classes.
Gov. Mike Beebe and state officials on Monday announced that the schools will participate in the Arkansas Advanced Initiative for Math and Sciences. The program is sponsored by the National Math and Science Initiative and based at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
The schools joining the initiative this year are Jonesboro High School, West Memphis High School, Conway High School, Arkadelphia High School, Sheridan High School, Smackover High School, Rison High School and the KIPP Delta Collegiate Preparatory High School in Helena-West Helena.
The new schools will bring to 31 the number of schools participating in the program.
