OFFICIALS WORK OUT PLAN TO ‘DE-ANNEX’ 99 ACRES

Commercial development in north Fayetteville along the proposed extension of Van Asche Drive may have a rosier future, free of litigation.

Officials from Fayetteville and Johnson have worked through a plan to “de-annex” 99 acres from the south edge of Johnson into Fayetteville. The land lies just north of Fayetteville’s proposed Van Asche Drive extension.

Fayetteville’s previous notions to annex and serve a larger area of Johnson created some contentious exchanges between the neighboring communities.

“This new land will add future growth opportunities for sales tax in commercial and residential developments,” Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan wrote in a memo to the City Council.
