A pressed sandwich, sometimes called a brick sandwich, spends hours under a weight (like a brick or pizza stone) in the fridge. The layers — and flavors — meld, making it perfect for packing on a picnic.

No matter what you’re doing in the fresh air — hiking, playing Frisbee, building a tree house, splashing in puddles, catching bugs, making mudpies, birdwatching, swinging — two things are for certain: One, you’re going to need adequate sun protection. (Only YOU can prevent premature wrinkling and unsightly tan lines.) And two — perhaps more importantly — you’re going to work up an appetite.
