LITTLE ROCK Arkansas’ unemployment rate for January remained steady at 7.6 percent, while the national rate dropped from 10 percent to 9.7 percent.
The Arkansas Department of Workforce Services said Tuesday the December unemployment rate was adjusted from 7.7 percent to 7.6 percent.
The state added 1,100 to its labor force in January, with 400 more people working and an additional 700 unemployed.
The state’s unemployment rate has grown by two-tenths of a percentage point since July. But the department says the state is still feeling the effects of the recession and it is too early to tell if the unemployment rate is truly stabilizing.
Over the past year, the state has lost 16,600 manufacturing jobs.
