Local real estate agents hope sales pick up before homebuyer federal tax credits expire April 30.

Spring sales will be welcome after a sluggish start in January and February in Benton and Washington counties.

Lackluster sales are not unusual in the winter months, but this year’s sales pace is about 37 percent slower than the same period in 2008, according to Mountdata.

Agents hope more buyers like Derrick and Ruth Schmidt take the plunge before the $8,000 first-time buyer and $6,500 repeat buyer tax credits expire.
