Dogs of all sizes and breeds leaped, raced and charmed their way through competition Saturday - all while catching and fetching elusive flying discs.

The first Bigwag Dog Bakery Arkansas State Disc Dog Championship required the utmost in athleticism, timing and smarts. The human handlers needed skills, too, but the canines were the day’s star performers.

Pam Martin of Garland, Texas, had the top champ - Viva, a border collie/Parson Russell terrier mix. Martin also made the six-hour trek to showcase the talents of Spy, a terrier mix, and Eagle, a whippet mix.

She said she frequently takes the dogs to varied kinds of competitions.

“My dogs love it,” Martin said.
