Zach Cox is one of several Arkansas baseball players leading the Hogs this season.
FAYETTEVILLE Arkansas third baseman Zack Cox was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals with the 25th pick in the first round of the MLB Draft on Monday night.
Cox was in the dugout at the time of his selection, resting a strained back after going 2-for-3 at the plate with a run and double in three innings of the NCAA Fayetteville Regional championship against Washington State.
Cox, who tied the Arkansas school record for hits in a season (97) Monday, entered the game with a .424 batting average, nine home runs and 48 RBIs. He was the sixth player in the Razorbacks' history to be drafted in the first round.
Cox was projected to be a top 10 pick in the draft by several experts before the draft Monday night.
