Guy H. Wann

SPRINGDALE — Guy H. Wann, 90, of Springdale, died Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. He was born Nov. 16, 1919, in Chelsea, Okla., to Guy and Lula Melton Wann.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Don Pierce and Billy Pierce; and two sisters, Velda Gilbreath and Katie Pierce.

Guy enlisted in the National Guard and served in the U.S. Army in North Africa and Italy during World War II. After the war he lived in Kansas City, where he worked for General Motors. He later moved to Springdale and worked 32 years for Swepco. Upon his retirement, he and Mabel traveled extensively including a trip back to Italy, where he served during the war. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Springdale. He was a member of the Noon Kiwanis and a member of the Springdale Masonic Lodge No. 316.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel Wann of the home, to whom he married June 11, 1949; one son, Mark Wann and wife, Martha, of Springdale; one daughter, Karen Parker and husband, Randy, of Rogers; four grandchildren, Melissa Murphy, Elizabeth Wann, Carrie Parker and Scott Parker; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Parley Pierce of Ash Grove, Mo., and Harold Pierce of Norman, Okla.; and two sisters, Marlie Williams of Columbia, Mo., and Carole Trojcak of Missouri City, Texas.

Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale, with the Rev. Cliff Palmer officiating. Burial will be in the National Cemetery in Fayetteville.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary Trimble Maier

FAYETTEVILLE — Mary Trimble Maier, 82, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at home in Fayetteville, Ark.

She was born Nov. 6, 1927, in El Dorado, Ark., the daughter of Lena Goodwin Trimble and John Dyer Trimble. She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Maier Jr.; and her daughter, Nancy Cooper Maier.

She was educated at Lindenwood College for Women in St. Charles, Mo., and graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where she was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity.

She devoted her life to her family, her friends and her churches. She served in the developments of Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the University of Arkansas.

In her later years, Mary enjoyed spending late summer and fall with her many friends in Manchester Center, Vt.

Mary is survived by her sister, Jean Turner Brewer; her brother, John Dyer Trimble Jr.; her daughter, Marilyn Maier Fincher; her son-in-law, Edward Raley Fincher; her grandson, Edward Raley Maier Fincher; and her son, John Lewis Maier.

There will be a memorial service at First United Methodist Church, McGehee, Ark., on Tuesday, Aug. 3, at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Henry Ratliff.

Charles Augustus Moorman

LINCOLN — Charles Augustus Moorman, 82, a resident of Lincoln, Ark., passed away July 27, 2010, at his home in Lincoln, Ark. He was born Oct. 12, 1927, in Spartanburg, S.C., the son of Walter Ervin and Susanna Madura Galbraith Moorman.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Hattie Strahan and Joyce Moorman; three brothers, Robert Moorman, Lynn Baxter Moorman and Jack Moorman.

Charles retired from the United States Navy where he served on the following ships, USS Kennedy 850, USS Perry 844, USS Daley DD519, USS Rowe 564, USS Frontier AD25 and USS Eversole DD789. He was a senior chief petty officer and an advanced sonar tech. He served in the European Theater of Operations (ETO), Asiatic Pacific Theater, the Korean conflict and Vietnam. He retired out of Pensacola as leading chief of security. He was a past post commander and lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Lincoln, Ark.

Survivors include two brothers, Walter “Bud” Moorman of Rose, Okla., and Roy Moorman and his wife, Diane, of Lincoln, Ark.; one aunt, Chrissie Jo Gilbreath; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and many cousins;

Family received friends Friday 6 to 8 p.m. at Luginbuel Funeral Home in Prairie Grove, Ark.

Funeral service will be held today, July 31, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Luginbuel Chapel in Prairie Grove, Ark., with the Rev. Amy Stapleton officiating. Burial will be in the Weddington Cemetery in Wedington, Ark. There will be no graveside services held at the cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the VFW Post 4675 in Lincoln, AR 72744; or a charity of your choice.

Pallbearers will be Jason Moorman, Paul Moorman, Robbie Moorman, Adam Moorman, Tyler Ryan and Paul Don Reed.

Honorary pallbearers will be Russ Terry, Henry Buchanan and Gary West.
