Sooter Seeks Fifth Term On Bentonville City Council

— City Councilman Chris Sooter announced his campaign for re-election earlier this week.

“I was born and raised in Bentonville,” Sooter said. “I got on the council because I wanted to find a way to be involved in the community and to help plan for the future so we can continue to have the quality of life we all enjoy.”

Sooter, 34, has served on the City Council since November 2002. He is a member of the Advertising and Promotions Commission and serves as vice president of the Bentonville Public Schools Foundation’s board of directors.

Sooter has served on several committees during his tenure on the council, including the budget committee, the planning and street construction committee and the traffic, safety and sign committee.

Debi Havner of Bentonville said she will vote for Sooter in November’s general election.

“Chris understands Bentonville’s history, and he seems to be totally dedicated to helping the community of Bentonville,” Havner said. “He pays attention to everything that goes on, he checks into everything and he gets back with everyone.”

Sooter said he plans to look toward the future in all decisions he makes if re-elected to the council.

“One of the things I care the most about is what the city looks like and how it is going to look in the future,” Sooter said.

Mike Power of Bentonville also supports Sooter’s re-election bid.

“Chris is very focused on the success of Bentonville and its citizens,” Power said. “If you ever turn to Chris for a need in the community he is very quick to rise to the challenge.”

Sooter found a solution to one of those challenges when he helped Bentonville High School students who were chosen to attend Girls State with fundraising so they could attend the hands-on citizenship training program in Searcy this summer, Power said.

The filing period for those interested in running for a municipal office is 8 a.m. Wednesday through noon Aug. 24. The general election is Nov. 2.
