SUPERMARKET SLEUTH: Dreyer’s bars deliver antioxidants, flavor

— Dreyer’s (also under the Edy’s label) has a new line of frozen Antioxidant Fruit Bars available in two flavors:

Pomegranate, which is a combination of pomegranate, elderberry and carrot juices. They contain 70 calories and no fat.

Acai Blueberry made with blueberry and acai puree. The acai (pronounced ah-sigh-ee) berry comes from an Amazon palm tree found in the rain forests of Brazil. One bar contains 60 calories and no fat.

They can be found in the ice cream section of most major stores, where a box of six costs $3.50 to $4.

International Delight creamers in Skinny Caramel Macchiato and Skinny Vanilla Latte are new additions to the company’s line of Coffeehouse Inspiration flavors.

Both versions gave my coffee a fancy coffeehouse taste; however, one tablespoon contains 30 calories and no fat, so the “skinny” version saves only about 10 calories and 1.5 grams of fat over the regular varieties.

Look for International Delight creamers in your grocer’s dairy section, where a 16-ounce bottle sells for about $2.

Wings of Nature, a natural and organic foods manufacturer with a focus on sustainable agriculture, offers a line of snack bars made with nuts, fruits and seeds that are cold processed, not baked.

The bars come in three flavors - Espresso Coffee, Almond Raisin and Cranberry Crunch. I was pleasantly surprised by the delicious taste and chewy texture.

Look for the Wings of Nature bars at Walgreens and Whole Foods stores, where they should cost about $1.80 each.
