ON TV CONTEST

— For the On TV Contest, the judge asked: What is your favorite TV hangout? Why?

When the votes were tallied, Arnold’s Drive-In from Happy Days was the runaway favorite.

Sharon Kornas of Morrilton said, “You can keep your Central Perks and Cheers. I’d rather be at the most happenin’ place around and that’s got to be Arnold’s Drive-In.”

For Lynne Sharp of Quitman, it was a place where “you can eat greasy cheeseburgers and fries without worrying about triglycerides.”

Mike Ichniowski of Fort Smith said, “How we sometimes long to go back to the simpler time at Arnold’s and have a burger and a shake ... as Fonzie would say: Perfectamundo!!”

But the winner was Bill Harrell of Little Rock, who longed for the excitement and diversity of Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s favorite club. Here is an excerpt:

“After almost 60 years of watching TV, I have never seen a more exciting hangout than Sunnydale, California’s The Bronze. The Bronze was a club for laughing and living and dancing and dying; maybe even dying more than once.

“The Bronze was a club without boundaries. One could be 15 or 250, an Angel or a zombie and be able to enter The Bronze. Trolls and werewolves could be seen on the dance floor or possibly even on stage in the band ...

“There were a lot of first kisses at The Bronze but there were also a lot of broken hearts, or in a lot of cases a stake through the heart. Although The Bronze was destroyed many times it was always rebuilt and its patrons kept returning for more fun and frolicking and fighting until finally, in the name of good triumphing over evil, The Bronze was no more.”

Tune in next week for a new contest.
