PUBLIC VIEWPOINT: Listen To POA Members

— The recent resignations of three board members offers our Property Owners Association Board of Directors the opportunity to seek the best solution to fill these vacancies.

I am aware of the bylaws stating that the board may appoint, by majority vote, any member in good standing to serve out the term of the vacating member. I believe that most POA members and the board would agree that our present situation is not the norm. Never in the history of the POA have three board members resigned at the same time.

In 2006, three board membersresigned over a period of six months, but not at the same time. The board chair at that time invited the POA members to offer input as to how the positions should be filled.

This would be an excellent opportunity for the present board to follow this direction and allow several options to the membership to offer their suggestions to the board for filling these vacancies.

The board could have a special meeting at Riordan Hall and invite members to discuss what they would like to see occur with selection of board vacancies. Or use the POA online polling thatwill start on Aug. 2 to ask simple questions:

1. Would you prefer the present board to appoint replacement board members?

2. Would you prefer that the membership elect replacement board members by a ballot process?

The above would validate that the present board is open-minded and is willing to seek input from the entire membership on which direction to move on this very important issue.
