3 Oklahoma universities top list for Indian graduates

— Three Oklahoma universities are atop a list that measures the number of bachelor's degrees awarded to students of American Indian descent.

The report by Diverse Issues in Higher Education, a national publication, has Northeastern State University in Tahlequah and Oklahoma State University in Stillwater as co-leaders on the list, followed by the University of Oklahoma in Norman.

According to the report, NSU and OSU each awarded 370 bachelor's degrees to American Indian students during the 2008-09 academic year, while OU awarded 258.

Three other Oklahoma schools are in the top 12. Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant is seventh with 171 degrees awarded, East Central University in Ada is 11th with 135 and the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond is 12th with 121.
