— Betty Lucille Gillen Leggett

FAYETTEVILLE — Betty Lucille Gillen Leggett, 82, of Fayetteville, Ark., died Thursday, July 22, 2010, at her daughter’s home in Bella Vista, Ark. She was born March 31, 1928, in Colorado, the daughter of Tempie Elizabeth and Patrick Gillen.

She served with the Civil Service in Tokyo, Japan, for several years, where she met her husband William Lawrence Leggett during the Korean Conflict. At a later point they married and she became a medical technician, and he was a Renowned Architect in Little Rock, Ark. She had lived in the Northwest Arkansas area since 1999 after moving from Denver, Colo.

Betty enjoyed bird watching any chance that she was given. She enjoyed drinking coffee and spending quality time with her daughter and her poodle Jasper. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, and loved embroidery. She was a medical technician for many years, then she served as a Nanny for many years for many children. She was a joy for all that she was around.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Elizabeth Shooter “Webo”; and her husband in 1996.

Betty is survived by one daughter, Kimberly Leggett-Kalke of Bella Vista, Ark., and her Nanny Daughter, Cicely Loren Orr, of Little Rock, Ark.; three grandchildren, Kruz Kalke and Keely Kalke, both of Bella Vista, Ark., Keaton Kozij, of Little Rock, Ark.; and her poodle Jasper.

Memorials to: The family of Mrs. Leggett for final expenses in care of Bank of Fayetteville.

Billy Ray Ames

LOWELL — Billy Ray Ames, age 84, of Lowell, died July 23, 2010, at Circle of Life Hospice House in Springdale. He was born Oct. 10, 1925, in Eureka Springs, Ark., the son of Charles Fred and Rena Hill Ames.

He was of the Baptist faith and attended Elmdale Baptist Church. Mr. Ames was retired from furniture sales and at one time owned a car wash. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1946. He enjoyed his grandkids, fishing and hunting and spending time with his family.

Mr. Ames is survived by his wife of 64 years, Louise Stout Ames; two sons: Phillip Ames and Cheryl of Rogers and Stephen Ames and Tammy of Springdale; one daughter: Carolyn Morris and Gary of Springdale; four brothers: Leroy Ames and Jimmy Ames both of Springdale, Raymond Ames of Eureka Springs, and Ted Ames of West Richland, Wash.; two sisters: Mary Ann Lee of Springdale and Reva June Leisure of Bentonville; six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at Memorial Funeral Chapel on Monday, July 26, 2010, at 10:00 o’clock with Rev. Tom Shaw and Gary Morris officiating, with burial following in Bluff Cemetery. Charles Curtis Donaghey

BELLA VISTA — Charles Curtis “Charlie” Donaghey, 66, of Bella Vista died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville.

Charlie was born Feb. 24, 1944 in Huntsville, Ark., to the late Eddie Lee and Evelyn (Wade) Donaghey.

Charlie loved being outside, spending time with friends and family, and playing with his toys — namely his golf clubs, cue stick and antique cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, Kellie Donaghey Oliver.

Survivors include his wife, LaVita, of the home; four daughters, Angie Donaghey-Francis and her husband Donald of Bella Vista; Amy Kesner of Bella Vista; Dawn Hill and her husband Clay of Dallas, Texas; Heather Walker and her husband Doug of Fayetteville; one brother, Howard Donaghey of Springdale, Ark.; one sister, Eve Adams of Southwest City, Mo.; one grandson, Tyler Ferguson; and six granddaughters, including Morgan Kesner.

Services for Charlie will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Bella Vista Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, July 26, 2010, at Rollins Funeral Home Chapel in Rogers.

Wanda Marie Hayes Jones

FAYETTEVILLE — Wanda Marie Hayes Jones, 85, died July 21, 2010, at Circle of Life Hospice surrounded by her family. She was born June 19, 1925, in Monrovia, Calif., the daughter of Aris Dee and Naomi (Cunningham) Moore.

She was raised by her beloved uncle John Theodore and aunt Theadoshie (Cunningham) Moore.

Her childhood years were spent in Harrah, Okla. During World War II, she joined the Cadet Nurse Corps and became a registered nurse.

Wanda and L.O. Jones were married Dec. 27, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo. They had two children, Jennifer and Terry, who grew up in the Riverside Community of Muskogee, Okla.

Wanda was licensed in Oklahoma and Missouri as an occupation health nurse and was a director and board member of the Oklahoma Association. She was a nurse at Corning Glass for 29 years. She was also an instructor-trainer for the American Red Cross safety programs and used these skills working in nursing homes and senior centers in her spare time. She loved to dance and entertained as a member of the Kiwanis Kickers.

She was a very active member of Riverside and York Street Christian churches in Muskogee before moving to First Christian Church in Fayetteville. She taught her Sunday school class for more than 30 years. She was a friend to everyone and she had perfected the art of listening.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, William (Billy) Hayes; her sisters, Aleta Hardaker and Evah Ross; and her grandson, Marcus Baker Jones.

She is survived by her son, Terry D. and wife, Becky (Baker) Jones; her daughter, Jennifer K. and husband, David Teaff; and her granddaughter, Meegan Elizabeth Jones.

Funeral services will be held at Memorial Park Mausoleum, 1 p.m., Monday, July 26, 2010, in Muskogee, Okla., under the direction of Moore’s Chapel, Fayetteville, Ark.

Don Shackelford

SPRINGDALE — Don Shackelford, 63, of Springdale, died July 22, 2010 at Circle of Life Hospice. He was born Feb. 17, 1947 in Harrison, Ark., to Alfred Don Shackelford and Dorothy M. Cobb.

He was owner and operator of Shackelford Upholstery in Springdale.

He is survived by his wife, Lynette Langbein Shackelford, whom he married July 3, 1964; his mother, Dorothy Smith of Lowell; one son, Steven Ray Shackelford and wife Rhonda of Springdale; one daughter, Christina Smith and husband David of Amarillo, Texas; three brothers, Lonnie Shackelford of Fayetteville, Tim Shackelford and Gary Shackelford, both of Springdale; two sisters Jeannette Heithold of Johnson and Donna Wilson of Nob Hill; six grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Silent Grove Cemetery. Under the direction of Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale.

Visitation will be Monday, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

John Audrain

FAYETTEVILLE — John Kay Audrain, age 54, of Fayetteville died Friday, July 23, 2010. He was born Dec. 27, 1955, in Okmulgee, Okla., to Jack and Martha Skillern Audrain.

He was a 1974 graduate of Fayetteville High School and attended the University of Arkansas where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He spent his career with AT&T providing telephone service in various capacities. He enjoyed playing golf, and was an avid Razorback and Dallas Cowboy fan. He prided himself on being the biggest Disney geek ever. John was a proud Watch Dog Dad at Asbell Elementary School, enjoyed people and loved to laugh. He was a devoted husband and father and loved his family above all.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Glenda Brooks Audrain; his daughter, Kellie Audrain; brother, Scott Audrain and his wife Carren of Fayetteville; sister, Jacki McWhorter and her husband Dan of Fayetteville; 10 nieces and nephews, Randy Audrain, Bradley Audrain, Spencer Audrain, Travis Drain, Kristi McWhorter Drain, Kylee Drain, Macey Brooks, Cambre Brooks, Halsey Brooks, Courtney Brooks and Ryan Brooks.

Family visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, July 26, 2010, at Moore’s Chapel.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Moore’s Chapel with burial at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
