— Betty Lucille Gillen Leggett

FAYETTEVILLE -- Betty Lucille Gillen Leggett, 82, of Fayetteville, Ark., died Thursday, July 22, 2010, at her daughter's home in Bella Vista, Ark. She was born March 31, 1928, in Colorado, the daughter of Tempie Elizabeth and Patrick Gillen.

She served with the Civil Service in Tokyo, Japan, for several years, where she met her husband William Lawrence Leggett during the Korean Conflict. At a later point they married and she became a medical technician, and he was a Renowned Architect in Little Rock, Ark. She had lived in the Northwest Arkansas area since 1999 after moving from Denver, Colo.

Betty enjoyed bird watching any chance that she was given. She enjoyed drinking coffee and spending quality time with her daughter and her poodle Jasper. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, and loved embroidery. She was a medical technician for many years, then she served as a Nanny for many years for many children. She was a joy for all that she was around.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Elizabeth Shooter "Webo"; and her husband in 1996.

Betty is survived by one daughter, Kimberly Leggett-Kalke of Bella Vista, Ark., and her Nanny Daughter, Cicely Loren Orr, of Little Rock, Ark.; three grandchildren, Kruz Kalke and Keely Kalke, both of Bella Vista, Ark., Keaton Kozij, of Little Rock, Ark.; and her poodle Jasper.

Memorials to: The family of Mrs. Leggett for final expenses in care of Bank of Fayetteville.

Billy Ray Ames

LOWELL -- Billy Ray Ames, age 84, of Lowell, died July 23, 2010, at Circle of Life Hospice House in Springdale. He was born Oct. 10, 1925, in Eureka Springs, Ark., the son of Charles Fred and Rena Hill Ames. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Elmdale Baptist Church. Mr. Ames was retired from furniture sales and at one time owned a car wash. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1946. He enjoyed his grandkids, fishing and hunting and spending time with his family.

Mr. Ames is survived by his wife of 64 years, Louise Stout Ames; two sons: Phillip Ames and Cheryl of Rogers and Stephen Ames and Tammy of Springdale; one daughter: Carolyn Morris and Gary of Springdale; four brothers: Leroy Ames and Jimmy Ames both of Springdale, Raymond Ames of Eureka Springs, and Ted Ames of West Richland, Wash.; two sisters: Mary Ann Lee of Springdale and Reva June Leisure of Bentonville; six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at Memorial Funeral Chapel on Monday, July 26, 2010, at 10:00 o'clock with Rev. Tom Shaw and Gary Morris officiating, with burial following in Bluff Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 2:00 o'clock until 4:00 o'clock at Memorial Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR 72764. Charles Curtis Donaghey

BELLA VISTA -- Charles Curtis "Charlie" Donaghey, 66, of Bella Vista died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville. Charlie was born Feb. 24, 1944 in Huntsville, Ark., to the late Eddie Lee and Evelyn (Wade) Donaghey.

Charlie loved being outside, spending time with friends and family, and playing with his toys -- namely his golf clubs, cue stick and antique cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, Kellie Donaghey Oliver.

Survivors include his wife, LaVita, of the home; four daughters, Angie Donaghey-Francis and her husband Donald of Bella Vista; Amy Kesner of Bella Vista; Dawn Hill and her husband Clay of Dallas, Texas; Heather Walker and her husband Doug of Fayetteville; one brother, Howard Donaghey of Springdale, Ark.; one sister, Eve Adams of Southwest City, Mo.; one grandson, Tyler Ferguson; and six granddaughters, including Morgan Kesner.

Services for Charlie will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Bella Vista Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, July 26, 2010, at Rollins Funeral Home Chapel in Rogers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Donaghey Memorial Scholarship Fund at any Arvest Bank.

Wilda Jean Schancer

HUNTSVILLE -- Wilda Jean Schancer, 80, of Huntsville, Ark., passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010, at the Concordia Health and Rehab Center in Bella Vista, Ark. Jean was born on Oct. 6, 1929, in Huntsville, Ark., a daughter of George Miller and Ruby Inez Evans Miller. She was the widow of the late Robert Schancer, who preceded her in death in August 2002.

Jean was a graduate of Huntsville High School, Class of 1948. She had worked for Tyson's and raised chickens for George's Poultry.

She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Mitchell and husband Thomas of Japton, Ark., Penny Wright and husband Robert of Lowell, Ark., and Robbie Wright of Las Vegas, N.V.; a sister-in-law Freda Miller of Alabam, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by one son, Robert John Schancer Jr., in August 2001.

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 26, 2010, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Springdale with cremation following.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Meals on Wheels.
