LOCAL CONTENDERS FARE WELL AT MISS ARKANSAS

— Ladies representing local competitions were among the finalists in the Miss Arkansas Pageant on July 17 in Hot Springs.

Alyse Eady, Miss South Central Arkansas, won the title at Summit Arena in Hot Springs in front of a crowd of more than 2,500 people.

Eady was crowned by the outgoing Miss Arkansas, Sarah Slocum of Sheridan.

The other top five finalists were:

First runner-up - Simone Mullinax of Tulsa, Okla., Miss Lakes of the Northwest.Mullinax also won the Dr. Paul Peek Interview Award, the Katie Bailey Swimsuit Award, the Tommy Lyons Overall Vocal Performance Award, one of five Preliminary Artistic Expression awards, one of four Preliminary Lifestyle and Fitness in Swimsuit awards, and one of three Preliminary Presence and Poise in Evening Gown awards. Mullinax is a 22-year-old graduate student at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

Second runner-up - Amy Crain of Hot Springs, Miss Northwest Arkansas. Crain also won the Pine Bluff Dance Academy Overall Dance Express Yourself Award, the Children’s Miracle Network Miracle Maker Award, one of five Preliminary Artistic Expression awards and one of four Preliminary Lifestyle and Fitness in Swimsuit awards. Crain is a 21-yearold senior communications major at the University of Arkansas. The Hot Springs native performed a clogging routine to “Gametime.”

Third runner-up - Kristen Glover of Stuttgart, Miss Cotton Belle.

Fourth runner-up - Somer Allen of Jonesboro, Miss Greater Jonesboro.

Other local competitors Kimberly Smith, Miss University of Arkansas, received the Gracie Nail Non-Finalist Vocalist Award, and Ann Wizer, Miss Heart of the Ozarks, received the Hila Ruminer “Neat As A Pin” Award.

Students at the University of Arkansas who also received recognition included Lindsey Lee, Miss South Arkansas, Carolyn Parks Memorial Non-Finalist Interview Award; and Erin Larsen, Miss Three Rivers, one of seven Alpha Lifestyle and Fitness in Swimsuit winners.
