Slow Food offers tomato tasting

Ozark Slow Food will host a tomato-tasting event from 10 a.m. to noon today at Fayetteville’s East Square Plaza.

Ozark Slow Food is affiliated with Slow Food U.S.A. The group’s mission is to promote relationships between local growers and consumers.

The group hosts numerous gourmet tastings in Northwest Arkansas throughout the year. Ozark Slow Food is also responsible for the Ozark Farm to Chef program, which helps area restaurants incorporate locally grown food into menus.

Guests can sample Arkansas-grown tomatoes, including unusual and heirloom varieties. Chef Chrissy Sanderson, formerly of Bordino’s Restaurant in Fayetteville, will talk about pairing tomatoes with other foods.

Local Master Gardeners will provide information about growing tomatoes, and local trio Watching Lucy will perform.

Tickets are $5 for adults and children 13 or older, and $2.50 for children ages 5-12. Tickets will be available at the door, but space is limited.

More information is available online at ozarkslow food.org or by calling (479) 799-7985.
