WASHINGTON COUNTY RELIGION NOTES

As part of its Summer at Central preaching series, Central United Methodist Church in Fayettevilleis pleased to welcome back the Rev. Wes Hilliard on Sunday. He will preach in the 8:30 and 11 a.m. traditional services in the sanctuary and the 9:40 a.m. contemporary service in the Central Activities Center.

Hilliard was Central’s associate pastor of discipleship from 1997 to 2001. He now serves as senior pastor of Heritage United Methodist Church in Van Buren. He also is a chaplain in the Arkansas Army National Guard.

Mendy Knott will lead a service at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Fayetteville, 901 W. Cleveland St. With poetry, prose and music, Knott will explore commitment in all its forms - to a person, a cause, an ideal, an art form, to friends, to family - because, as she says, “commitment continues to fascinate and amaze me with its power.” Renee Janski will sing.

Ken Johnson, chaplain for the Indianapolis Colts, will be the guest speaker during the 11 a.m.

Sunday worship service at Grace Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville, 2451 Wedington Drive. A reception will follow.

The Wesley Concert Series continues at First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive, at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Brett Tarry, an organist from Kansas City, will present selections by Dubois, Brahms, Franck, Bach and others.

Tarry is an active member of the American Guild of Organists and the American Choral Directors Association. He has been described as “one of the bright new stars on the crown of the King of Instruments.” Information: 855-1158, www.lovelearnlead.com.

The First Pentecostal Church of God in Rogers, 822 N. C St., will host a revival this week. Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Speakers are evangelist Edwina Kidd on Monday; evangelist pastor Linda Brewer on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; and Helen Baker, women’s director of the Pentecostal Church of God in Arkansas, on Thursday.

A Marriage Encounter-United Methodist is slated for Aug. 13-15 at the Courtyard by Marriott in Bentonville. The summer retreat will allow couples to create memories while re-energizing their marriages. Topics covered include marriage in today’s world, God’s desire for marriage, spousal communication, listening, and expressing and accepting feelings.

The ministry has touched the lives of thousands of married couples locally and around the globe.

A community event to rebuild Iglesia Fe y Poder En Jesus is slated for 4:30 p.m. July 31 at the Jones Center in Springdale. The band Conjunto Manantial from Oklahoma City will perform. The evening also will feature skits, food, inflatable games and a raffle for a TV. There is no charge to attend. Information: 419-8337.

Emtro/T Records invites the Northwest Arkansas community to the second live recording of the Arkansas Gospel Mass Choir. The live recording will take place at 5 p.m. July 31 at the Rogers First Church of the Nazarene, 4911 W. Pleasant Grove Road in Rogers.
