Naturals Shut Out Travelers

— Gil Meche made the most of his rehab start with Northwest Arkansas, allowing only two hits while pitching four scoreless innings in a 1-0 win over Arkansas on Wednesday night in Dickey-Stephens Ballpark in North Little Rock.

Meche, a 31-year-old starting pitcher for the Kansas City Royals, made his debut with the Naturals as part of his recovery from bursitis in his right (throwing) shoulder.

Everett Teaford (8-3) took over for Meche in the fifth and gave up only one hit and recorded five strikeouts to earn the win. Patrick Keating capped another shutout for the Naturals by allowing no hits in 1 1/3 innings to record his fourth save.

Northwest Arkansas designated hitter Clint Robinson drove in the only run of the game in the top of the first when he smacked a triple to right field, scoring Eric Hosmer.

ON DECK: The Naturals will conclude their series against the Travelers today with a battle of left-handed pitchers. Edgar Osuna (6-2, 2.57 ERA) will start on the mound for Northwest Arkansas, while Trevor Reckling (1-1, 2.45) will get the nod for Arkansas. First pitch is at 7:10 p.m.

Osuna is 2-0 against the Travelers this season, including a 4-2 victory on June 11 in North Little Rock, in which he struck out five in six innings of work while giving up eight hits.
