Main Street Rogers To Host Film

HIGH DEFINITION PRESENTATION OF ‘PEARL’ WILL TAKE PLACE TONIGHT

— “Pearl,” a full-length feature film produced in Oklahoma, will be shown tonight in high definition at the Frisco Stage at First and Elm streets.

The movie is presented by the Seedling Film Association and Main Street Rogers.

Only one film will be shown this year, a joint project between the film association and Main Street.

“This is something we want to do more of in the future,” said Kerry Jensen, president of Main Street Rogers.

“Pearl” is about Pearl Carter Scott, the youngest pilot in aviation history, according to information about the film. An Oklahoma native, she was a pilot at 14 and a friend of Wiley Post, Will Rogers’ famous pilot.

The family-friendly film has won several awards from independent film festivals, including best actress, best docudrama and best director. The film was produced by the Chickasaw Nation.

Jason Suel, a member of the board of directors of Seedling Film Association, said “Pearl” has great production values and has been received well across the country.

Seedling has “shown films in Fayetteville and Springdale. We want to educate people about and promote independent film making in Arkansas,” Suel said.

“There are more people who have been involved in the film industry living in the area than you might think,” Suel said. “We want to network with people who have experience and others wanting to learn about independent film making. We haven’t produced any films yet but that’s our goal: to make more movies in Arkansas, with Arkansans producing, acting, lighting, doing the sound, everything that goes into a movie.”

The association is scheduled to host a film festival Oct. 7-10 in Fayetteville.

Tonight’s free screening begins at 8 p.m. and is open to the public. Jensen suggested those attending bring lawn chairs because there is limited seating at the Frisco Stage.

Popcorn and soft drinks will be available.
