— 100 YEARS AGO July 21, 1910

That the whole country shall know that Arkansas is to have an extensive exhibit at the United States Land and Irrigation exposition in Chicago this year long before the show opens is the intention of Hubert P. Cross, secretary of the exposition, who spent yesterday in Little Rock. Secretary Cross stated last night that the purpose of his visit to this city was to confer with Judge E.R. Ratterree, secretary of the Arkansas Land Congress, on the subject of an advertising campaign to be commenced in the near future and kept up until the exposition opens.

50 YEARS AGO July 21, 1960

Bids will be opened tomorrow for the construction of the Police and Courts Building and for North Little Rock, it’s the initial step in a dream coming true. The North Little Rock Police Department can then begin preparing for the eventual transfer from their condemned quarters on the first floor of City Hall. Police Chief Ray Vick recalls that the Pulaski County Grand Jury condemned the jail the year he went to work for the department in 1941.

25 YEARS AGO July 21, 1985

The community of Maumelle will become the city of Maumelle on Tuesday if no one objects to the area’s incorporation. And an interim government, of sorts, will run the area until a city government is created. Last month Pulaski County Judge Don Venhaus approved the petition from the Maumelle Incorporation Committee to allow formation of a first class city.

10 YEARS AGO July 21, 2000

An international diploma program could be what the North Little Rock School District needs to encourage more students to attend college, staff members told the School Board Thursday night. The School Board is expected to decide at its next regular meeting, set for Aug. 17 whether the staff can begin the application process toward offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. International Baccalaureate is an interdisciplinary secondary curriculum with studies in English, foreign language, social and experimental sciences and mathematics.
