James Owen Mays

SPRINGDALE — Jim Mays, 61, of Springdale, died Monday, July 5, 2010, at his home.

Jim was born Oct. 19, 1948, in Marysville, Calif., to the late Owen Gilbert and Madalin Mays. He had two sisters who preceded him in death, Debby May and Caraline Miller, both of Rogers.

Jim was a business owner, Mays Tree Service, for 40 years. Jim graduated from Rogers High School in 1966. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines where he served his country in Vietnam in 1967-68. He received several Purple Hearts and numerous accommodations.

Among Jim’s many hobbies were flying small planes, hunting, fishing, skiing and missions.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Molly; three sons, Jason Mays of Springdale, Kristopher Mays and his wife, Martha, of Rogers, and Thomas Mays and his wife, Brittany, of Springdale; one sister, Roberta Wilmoth and her husband, Kenny, of Colcord, Okla.; six grandchildren, Taylor, Kristian Faith, Lexi, Koby, Zaylee and James Owen Mays II; one uncle, Kenneth Mays and his wife, Francis, of Kansas City; and aunt, Leona Hampton, of Fayetteville.

Jim loved and followed the Lord Jesus Christ since 1976. He served the Lord through the bus ministry of First Baptist Church for over 20 years, and pioneered a bus ministry at Friendship Baptist Church of Springdale. He spent 12 years taking youth on mission trips.

He was a loving husband, a caring dad and was “Oh Great One” to his grandchildren. He was a storyteller and an adventurer.

He will be greatly missed. We know his faith became sight the moment he went to Jesus.

Funeral services for Jim were held Friday, July 9, 2010.

Kendra Maria Youngman

CENTERTON — Kendra Maria Youngman, 15, of Centerton, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010, at home with her mother. She had been battling cystic fibrosis since she was an infant.

She was born Jan. 20, 1995, in Rogers, Ark., to Lori L. Youngman and the late Dennis W. Youngman.

She enjoyed horseback riding, hunting and outdoor activities. She was a member of Johnson Arena’s Playdays, in which she enjoyed doing poles and barrels on horseback. She attended Bentonville Schools.

She was a very loving and caring child and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Kendra was preceded in death by her father, Dennis; great-grandmother, Virgie Dalton; and great-grandparents, Earl and Jewel Youngman.

Survivors include her mother, Lori; one sister, Heather L. Lowery of Caroleen, N.C.; grandparents, Bob and June Hogue of Copley, Ohio; grandparents, Loyd and Janice Youngman of Ozark, Ark.; great-grandfather, Leon Dalton; Uncle Joe and Aunt Denise Manley of Wadsworth, Ohio; Uncle Jimmy and Aunt Teresa Scanlon of Rogers; Uncle Johnny and Aunt Kim Youngman of Pea Ridge; Aunt Elisha Youngman of Little Rock; and nieces and nephews, Katelyn, Jordan and Nathan Manley, Shawna and Lea Scanlon, and Amber, Ashley, Brittney, and Cassie Youngman.

Services for Kendra will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers with the Rev. Robert Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Pea Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 7101 W. 13th St., Suite 401, Little Rock, AR 72201.

Kerry Kevin Burk

SPRINGDALE — Kerry Kevin Burk, 52, of Springdale, died Friday, July 16, 2010, at Baxter County Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home. He was born July 27, 1957, in Wichita, Kan., to Thomas R. Burk Jr. and Arlene LaVonn Clutter.

Kerry owned and operated Kerry’s Concrete for 37 years. He graduated from Springdale High School in 1976, where he played football for the Bulldogs. He graduated from Henderson State University, where he played football. He coached youth football for 10 years.

Survivors include his longtime companion, Donna B. Taylor, of the home; one brother, Thomas R. Burk III, of Fayetteville; three sisters, Kimberly K. Calhoun, of Dover, Del., Kathy K. Heinrich, of Huntsville, and Tammy R. Moore, of Bella Vista.

A visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale.

Lois H. Crabtree

LENEXA, Kan. — Lois H. Crabtree, 94, of Lenexa, Kan., and a longtime resident of Kansas City, Kan., died Friday, July 16, 2010, at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

Her funeral services are on Thursday, July 22, beginning at 10 a.m. at Grandview Baptist Church, 2400 Grandview Blvd., Kansas City, Kan. (Burial following the funeral at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens).

Friends may call from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21, at the Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the church or the Kansas City, Kan., School Foundation for Excellence.

Lois was born Oct. 25, 1915, in Van Buren, Ark.; she grew up in Sallisaw, Okla., and moved to Kansas City, Kan., after the war. Lois raised her family in Kansas City, Kan., spent her retirement years in Bella Vista, Ark., and then moved to Lakeview Village in Lenexa for the last 15 years of her life.

She had graduated from Northeastern (Okla.) State College in Tahlequah, Okla., and began her teaching career in 1935 in Oklahoma. She taught for 10 years in Oklahoma schools, including one-room schoolhouses at Watts and Rocky Point, and then at the high school in Pryor, Okla. After her husband returned from the war, they moved to Kansas City, Kan., where Lois taught in the Kansas City, Kan., public schools for the next 25 years. She taught at Major Hudson and Morse Elementary Schools before becoming program specialist for the Career Education Program, and finished her career in KCK as the supervising teacher for all fifth-grade teachers in the school system. After retiring and moving to Northwest Arkansas, Lois resumed teaching. She taught, full-time, for two more years in the Bentonville, Ark., public schools and then worked as a substitute teacher and tutor until the age of 77. Lois loved to teach children to read, write and think clearly. And she always expected proper grammar.

Lois married Cleo V. (Charlie) Crabtree in 1944, just weeks before he left for the war in Europe. They were married to one another for 55 years, until his death in 1999. She was a longtime member of the Grandview Baptist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a Daughter of the American Revolution.

Survivors include her two sons, Edward “Mike” Crabtree and his wife, Markie, and Dan Crabtree and his wife, Maureen Mahoney; three grandchildren, Jeremy, Jonathan, and Colleen; and four great-grandchildren, Peyton, Avery, Emerson and Aniston.

The family will be forever grateful to Latania, Judy, Lynette, Naomi, Andy, Joseph, Carol, Theresa, Aaron and the entire staff at Lakeview Village, and Stacie of Crossroads Hospice. They cared for Lois with great kindness and devotion during her final months. She will miss them all very much.

Don Archie McAllister Jr.

SPRINGDALE — Don Archie McAllister Jr., 60, of Springdale, died Saturday, July 17, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. He was born Nov. 20, 1949, in Wellsville, N.Y., to Donald Archie McAllister Sr. and Elizabeth Marguerite Frim McAllister.

He was a long-haul truck driver and collected antique clocks. He enjoyed playing pool and poker, bartering, trap-shooting, riding motorcycles, was a member of the Clock Club and the NRA.

Survivors are his parents, Don and Elizabeth McAllister, of Pea Ridge; his longtime companion, June Kirby, of the home; two sons, Jeremy McAllister and wife, Rona, of Pea Ridge, Tommy McAllister and fiancé, Jessica, of Pea Ridge; and their mother, Sharon McAllister, of Pea Ridge; two brothers, Case McAllister and wife, Patsy, of Pea Ridge, Mark McAllister and wife, Ava, also of Pea Ridge; and three grandchildren, Cameron, Maggie and Clinton McAllister.

Service is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Pea Ridge with the Rev. Edwin Brewer officiating. Burial is at Dent Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge.

Cody Carroll Carnahan

SULPHUR SPRINGS — Cody Carroll Carnahan, 20, of Sulphur Springs, Ark., passed away July 17, 2010. He was born Nov. 20, 1989, in Gravette to Rickey Carnahan and Jodi Stimson.

He was an auto-body repairman.

He is survived by his father, Rickey of Sulphur Springs; his mother, Jodi, of Decatur; two sisters, Kimberly Auffet of Decatur, Amanda Carnahan of Jay Okla.; and his daughter, Lexie Marie Kier of Gravette.

Visitation will be held 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ben ton County Fairgrounds Auditorium in Vaughn, Ark.

Services will immediately follow at 11 a.m. Jheri Roberts will officiate the service.

Burial will take place at Dow Cemetery in Gravette.

Services are under the care and direction of Callison-Lough Funeral Home of Bentonville.
